30 Days Can Be a Lifetime
30 days of 30 burpees? That’s it? Easy. No big deal.
That’s what I thought when I first heard about the 30-Day Burpee Challenge. I already work out every day, so adding a few extra burpees didn’t sound like much of a challenge. At least not physically.
The real challenge for me was adding a movement that I don’t like into my routine. I prefer exercises that simulate a martial arts technique. And since I already practice sprawls, why would I practice jumping up in the air and clapping?
I wouldn’t! Except in the case of a stupid challenge!
But then a funny thing happened. I started enjoying them. Not for the exercise, but for what the exercise was teaching me. Around Day 8, I became aware of how even the smallest investment of time and energy, day after day, can add up to big results.
It’s not what you do once in a while that makes the biggest difference in your life, it’s what you do every day.
I got more efficient at performing burpees as the days passed. And every day I kept thinking, “What else can I add to my routine? What other small investment can I make every day to change my life?”
30 seconds of mediation? 30 reps of my favorite self-defense move? 30 reps of my least favorite self-defense move?
1 thank you email to someone I appreciate? 1 real letter to a friend? 1 phone call to a family member I don’t speak to much?
Usually, people say they don’t have time to try something new or do what they really want. But that’s nonsense. Everybody can add something to their day. Something small. Something no one notices.
Until it changes their life.
