Andrea’s Goals

1 29

I added a lot of value to my martial arts journey this past year. I started blogging, wrote several articles for a martial arts magazine, and am now published monthly in my town’s local newspaper. I did not get as physically fit as I would have hoped and so my upcoming goals will center more around fitness.

I did the burpees challenge for 30 days and succeeded! I may have missed a day or two, but in the end I had hit a great training target!

These are my goals

Goal 1

I would like to combine more weight training with my existing workouts

Details

When I teach karate, I can jump in more and train with the students. For the youngsters there is a lot of game playing, but also some bag work or stretching or drills. This will help me with stamina and skills.

How would I know that I have achieved this goal?

  • Be able to perform all white to black belt techniques with grace and proficiency

Why and how is this goal important to me

I would feel better about myself if I had more muscular definition or increased definition. Fitness is always very important to me.

I would be happy if I achieved this goal. Being middle-aged and the mother of four, I struggle with time constraints.

If I fail or don’t get started, I’ll be disappointed, but will try again. I usually don’t give up easily.

How I intend to kickstart this goal

  • Weight training 3-4 times per week on top of existing workouts

Deadline to get started: 02.01.2014

Potential obstacles to achieving my goal

  • Lack of time, lack of energy

How I will overcome the obstacles

Add it on to existing workouts so it’s not too out of the way. Get more sleep.

Goal 2

Increase general martial arts practice time

Details

I’ve gained a few pounds, nothing dramatic. I’d like to incorporate weight loss or fat loss with my new weight training and my karate training. I need to up the stakes a little and participate more in the martial arts classes I teach. If I work out more and train more, I’ll meet several goals in the back of my mind. So, more karate practice for myself as opposed to just teaching.

How would I know that I have achieved this goal?

  • Better fitness, flexibility, and performance

Why and how is this goal important to me

Because I am a martial arts teacher it is important I keep strong in my own skills.

If I succeed, I’ll be physically fit, which is a personal goal, and I’ll feel good about myself.

If I don’t train more, I’ll blame it on time issues. I don’t want to place any blame though – I’d rather just up the training and meet my goals.

How I intend to kickstart this goal

  • Starting January, I will be practicing more of my own skills during the classes I teach

Deadline to get started: 02.01.2014

Potential obstacles to achieving my goal

  • Lack of time and lack of energy could stand in my way

How I will overcome the obstacles

Add practice in during teaching class. Get more sleep.
