RaiderGirlChell’s Reflection and Goals for 2014

0 32

Last year, the goals I’ve made were trying to find a MA or self defense class, getting into better shape, become more wise and knowledgeable, and learn how to control my emotions. I’ve managed to achieve all but one goal, finding a defense or MA class.

The lessons I’ve learned during this past year is how to manage time better, making better life choices, and not to let my emotions get the best of me. I feel much better now and feel like I’ve improved.

I had trouble finding a MA or a self defense class and I had gotten sidetracked with my personal life and my schooling. However, I’ve managed to find other alternatives for now, like reading books about it and finding a way to workout at home when I get the chance to.

The reason I want to lead my life inspired by the shinobi/kunoichi and other warrior cultures is because, like I’ve stated before on one of my stories from last year, I wanted to show my support and appreciation for them all, the lessons, culture, etc. they have brought into this life. To me, they seem honorable, cunning and wise, and were able to live with tranquility in their life. I’m hoping by learning and leading by their example, and present day warriors that I know, they can help me make the world a better place.

These are my goals

Goal 1

First Goal: Learn More Skills

First Day in Rock Climbing Class, Aug. 2009, 19 yrs old

Details

I wanted to learn more skills that will help in my life, like learning how to balance better.

How would I know that I have achieved this goal?

  • Be able to balance on rope and small platforms
  • Be able to traverse for almost 2 mins
  • Be able to hold my breath underwater for at least a minute and a half
  • Be able to swim better

Why and how is this goal important to me

This is about the second important goal. The reason for that is that I want to be able to do more things I’ve been told and thought I couldn’t do and want to see I can achieve anything in life. Also, life is random and ANYTHING can happen. Skills like the ones I’ve mentioned, may come in handy one day. I follow this saying, ‘Ready for anything; Prepared for the worst’.

How I intend to kickstart this goal

  • Plan how and when I can practice said skills
  • Find some rope and small poles or something related to small poles and have it hang lower on the ground first. If not, see what I can use at the playgrounds
  • Find a pool I can practice swimming in
  • Find a place I can practice traversing, like maybe a playground at a park

Deadline to get started: 13.12.2014

Potential obstacles to achieving my goal

  • Finding a pool to practice in. I have to wait until warm weather starts up again. Around where I life, there’s no indoor swimming pools.
  • Again, I would have to use the playground equipment on days when it’s dry. It’s currently raining. However, I do have some alternatives for practicing traverse skills indoors

How I will overcome the obstacles

The way I’m going to deal with the obstacles I face is to find a way to practice indoors. Due to rain, practicing outdoors will be difficult. So, I found a way to practice on how to traverse indoors and that’s by hanging from a ledge that’s high up or something similar. Also, my small stature gives me an advantage, because everything is much taller than I am and is up higher. As for holding my breath practice, I’ll just have to practice holding my breath without the water for now.

Goal 2

Second Goal: Improve myself even more physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Strength

Details

I’ve improved physically, emotionally and mentally, but I want to do even better. For this goal, I want to improve myself so I feel more confident and stronger.

How would I know that I have achieved this goal?

  • Able to solve puzzles faster
  • Better memorization
  • Know how stay positive even on really bad, stressful days
  • Feel physically stronger

Why and how is this goal important to me

This one is especially important because years ago, when I was 17 to the time I almost became 19 1/2, my anger and sadness was out of control. It took awhile to control it and it’s mostly suppressed at the moment. Although I’ve gotten control of it, which was one of my goals last year, it still lingers. I’m going to learn how to not just suppress it, but to let it wash over me and not let it get to me. Also, I need to work on not getting sad half the time and easily. So, it’s important I make sure I’m almost 100% in control of controlling my emotions.

Secondly, I had a hard time when it came to memorizing, problem solving and making a quick decision. I’ve gotten better on it, but I feel that there are some problem areas I need to work on a little more.

Hopefully, this’ll be my last year that I have this goal.

How I intend to kickstart this goal

  • Get a journal and write down everything that makes me upset and what makes me happy
  • Meditate more often
  • Find a hobby, creative outlet, or the like to release my anger or sadness safely and easier
  • Go on luminosity.com more
  • Think more positive thoughts
  • Make peace with past mistakes and regrets

Deadline to get started: 13.12.2014

Potential obstacles to achieving my goal

  • Something gets in the way of meditating
  • Having fears and doubts
  • Letting mistakes get the best of me

How I will overcome the obstacles

I plan to overcome these obstacles by managing my time better. My finals are done, so now I have more time to do the things I want or need to do. Secondly, I need to keep in mind everything and everyone that makes me happy when times get though, and meditate outside (being under the canopy or such) in the rain. Rain and cold, cloudy overcast weather makes me happy and calm.

Goal 3

Third Goal: Find a Martial Arts or Defense Class

Everyday is a Second Chance

Details

I’ve always wanted to get into a MA or some type of defense class. I want to learn how to be peaceful, stay in shape, and learn how to defend myself and others if need be.

How would I know that I have achieved this goal?

  • Feel happier and confident
  • Know how to defend correctly
  • Made friends
  • Feel accomplished

Why and how is this goal important to me

This goal is important, but the previous two are more important. If I couldn’t achieve this goal, I can always try again. If I’m able to find a class, I know for sure I’ll feel confident and happier. Would be nice to be with people that also have that kind of interest.

How I intend to kickstart this goal

  • Find local MA or the like places that are local in my area
  • If there are more than one, compare price for membership
  • Find one that offers a limited free trial
  • See what days I’ll be available.

Deadline to get started: 13.12.2014

Potential obstacles to achieving my goal

  • Price
  • Time
  • Personal life
  • Location

How I will overcome the obstacles

I plan to overcome this by seeing what days I’ll be completely available and do a lot of research.
