When given a scenario that involved eliminating two out of three items (peanut butter, tea or beer) from our lives for good, most fitness athletes and martial artists professed their love for peanut butter on Twitter. And yes! While I’m among those within the peanut butter ‘camp’, what’s with this obsession with peanut butter?

On the other hand, on Tumblr, most martial artists can’t seem to do without tea.

In any case, what was the inspiration for the three options? Hot Tea Month (January), Peanut Butter Day (24 January) and Beer Can Appreciation Day (24 January).

Scenario Prompt Purpose & Highlights

This scenario prompt achieved its intended purpose to bring the different community segments (e.g. runners, martial artists, fitness athletes and more) together and allow strangers to interact through a random topic. To keep it interesting, rules were added and tweaked depending on the social media channel it was posted on.

Here are the highlights on Twitter and Tumblr.

Funny Tweet Snapshots

The scenario prompt spun off conversations about Paleo, eating healthy and whether peanut butter was Paleo. It then went on to coping with commitments and setbacks in fitness and diet. Good tweetversation.

But here are the lighter moments…

Choosing between peanut butter and tea is a torture

The full scenario game was played out in Tumblr and it is still going on. Here is the originating post, you can see the response by those tagged under notes.

While there are peanut butter people like me on Tumblr, martial artists there are crazy about tea. Don’t believe me? Here are the tea lovers.

You can’t say it better than Ulfric42

“Because tea. It is glorious nectar of the gods. People are allergic to peanuts. After a run in with a light wheat beer called Grasshopper I am no longer trusting of beers that I can see though. So tea.” – Ulfric42

Philosophical analogy of tea

“Out of the three, tea is the one I take most. Peanut butter is great for snacking and baking, and beer is fun, but I can go for long stretches of time without either so I guess forever is just a really long stretch. Tea however is a cup of life, as simple as leaves and hot water but as complex as life itself. There is an experience to drinking tea, whether by oneself or among company, and at any time of the day. I like how Jerome K. Jerome sums the experience of a cup of tea and how it speaks to the body “Now, rise, and show your strength. Be eloquent, and deep, and tender; see, with a clear eye, into Nature and into life; spread your white wings of quivering thought, and soar, a god-like spirit, over the whirling world beneath you, up through long lanes of flaming stars to the gates of eternity!” Yup, that’s a cup of tea for ya.” – SifuKuttel

Simple and to-the-point, she drinks as much tea as me

“Tea is my absolute favorite thing in the world!  I drink about 3 – 5 cups a day.  It keeps me energized and calm.  […]” – AssassinWannabeFitness

More tea than alcohol!

“Really I drink more tea than I do drink alcohol or peanut butter! Tea helps me calm down and I find it so much better than alcohol which tends to make me bloat and feel uncomfortable! And I only really like peanut butter when I do PB&J sandwiches!” – ThePathToDan

Favourite: Though not a Tea response, Train-Go’s answer cracks me up
